Bricklayers are responsible for building or repairing walls in accordance with construction plans. These dynamic construction workers also build or refurbish other structures.

If you enter this profession, you might be working on construction projects of all sizes, ranging from small residential dwellings to large commercial properties.

At ValCon, our geographical area includes the Hampton Roads area stretching over a 100 mile radius into Richmond and North Carolina. Traveling from one project to another is a common occurrence and may require an occasional location change.  You’ll need a positive attitude, an attention to detail, the ability to use a plumb line, and a desire to be part of the ValCon bricklayer team.  At ValCon we perform as one unit, working together supporting each other, brick after brick, and block after block.

Salary and benefits commensurate with experience.  A bricklayer’s journeyman card is preferred, however not required.  Health and safety regulations are strictly enforced.  You will be required to wear and use protective gear at all times.  All training is provided on the job. However, additional training courses are available to help develop specialized skills, such as bricklaying.

The best Mason Tenders are much like the best butlers. They maintain cleanliness, keep materials on hand, and anticipate the mason’s needs without being told.  As a Mason Tender, you do many of the behind-the-scenes tasks that allow the Mason to do complicated brickwork. In short, you keep everything organized for the Mason.

A typical day on the job of a Mason Tender would include working directly with the Mason,  operating the forklift, material handling, erecting scaffolding, stocking the scaffold with brick or block, preparing the mortar or grout, and making brick cuts.

When the Mason is done, as the Mason Tender, you climb up the scaffold to chip off any excess mortar or grout on the brick or block, clean out mortar pans and mixer.
